Interview with Juan Sánchez Morales, QHSE Manager at Grupo Magna
- What are your responsibilities as QHSE Manager for the Magna Group?
To integrate, maintain, and manage a Management System, which is a structured set of processes, policies, and practices that an organization implements to achieve specific objectives such as quality, environmental protection, or occupational health and safety, following recognized international standards. In our case, it is a system based on international ISO standards for QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment). These standards, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, help improve performance, ensure legal compliance, and foster continuous improvement, building trust both inside and outside the organization. 2. Magna has several ISO certifications that validate the services you offer. What are they?
We currently have three certifications, awarded by AENOR, for all our activities, both in Spain and internationally: ISO 9001 (Quality Management); ISO 14001 (Environmental Management); ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management).
3. What motivated you to implement them?
Implementing a management system brings a whole series of benefits, ranging from organizational self-awareness to process optimization, and the peace of mind and guarantees it provides to our clients.
4. How do you think integrated management can be a key differentiating factor for Magna in the current market, especially compared to the competition?
Construction is a complex sector, and unfortunately, there are also disorganized and unprofessional companies in it.
These types of management systems offer peace of mind in the market because they are certified by internationally recognized external assessment bodies. They also guarantee that we have defined processes with monitoring systems that ensure compliance with our clients’ requirements. In our case, with three ISO standards implemented, we have a system that integrates management, combining equivalent requirements across standards and facilitating their operational execution.
Training, training, and more training. At MAGNA, we maintain a dynamic Training Plan, which allows us to address awareness-raising initiatives, both with our team and with our partners’ teams, involving them in our sustainability commitments.
Each project is unique, so different challenges arise in each one. Magna Industrial c/José Echegaray, nº8 - Building 1, 2nd Floor

5. What new technologies or emerging methodologies in the construction sector do you think will have the greatest impact on quality management, and how do you plan to incorporate them at Magna?
The digitization of all processes, especially those related to the design, development, monitoring, and management of projects, is already a reality. We already have tools on the market that allow for fully digitalized management of the entire project, optimizing time in each of the phases involved and guaranteeing traceability that was unthinkable until recently.
Robotics and industrialization in construction processes (such as precast concrete) are also expanding rapidly, allowing for increasingly shorter execution times, simplifying on-site processes, reducing risks, and contributing significantly to environmental management.
6. How do you foster a culture of quality throughout the organization, from senior management to on-site teams?
7. What do you consider to be the biggest challenges in managing these three areas in the construction sector today, and how is your department addressing them?
