Faced with a climate scenario where scientists warn of a constant increase in the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, responding with actions is our priority. This summer, with recurring orange and red alerts for high temperatures in Spain and Portugal, we have reinforced our operational emergency plan to protect the health of our workers at our ongoing construction sites.
On-site prevention measures
▪️Active awareness campaigns: Continuous sensitization of workforces in Spain and Portugal regarding heatstroke symptoms and self-care guidelines.
▪️Continuous hydration points: Installation of water fountains at entrances and strategic areas of the sites to guarantee proper hydration for teams.
▪️Environmental monitoring: Temperature and humidity measurement stations at the construction site to evaluate the thermal risk index in real time and pause work at critical moments.
Early warning pilot project
Taking a step forward in preventive innovation, this summer we have implemented an early warning pilot project with smart bracelets at key construction sites in Spain.
These wearable devices monitor the physiological vitals of operators in real time. Upon detecting anomalies in body temperature or changes in heart rate associated with heat stress, the bracelet emits an immediate warning signal to the worker, allowing for proactive action before a serious incident occurs.
With this trial, we combine cutting-edge technology and direct care for our people, reaffirming that for the MAGNA group, safety is always the primary pillar of every project.
